Environmental Policy of Silveria Training Restaurant
Silveria Training Restaurant is part of the vocational education provider Vamia. The restaurant educates the future professionals of the industry. Environmental awareness and responsibility are a natural part of our daily operations. By participating in the Green Key environmental program, we also make this expertise more visible to our customers. Read more about Green Key.
Vamia’s focus on sustainability – energy efficiency and continuous improvement according to the Lean methodology – permeates teaching across all programs as well as everyday activities both within the institution and at Silveria Training Restaurant. We incorporate the principles of sustainable development in our operations and procurement, while encouraging our customers to adopt environmentally responsible mindsets and practices.
We support our students’ growth into environmentally responsible citizens who can integrate sustainable practices into their professional and everyday lives. This enables us to influence students’ awareness and attitudes towards sustainability. Integrating sustainable development into vocational skills means embracing responsibility and requires knowledge, skills, and the right attitude.
In Vamia’s learning environments – both in educational settings and workplaces – we operate sustainably. Environmentally friendly working methods are best learned when they are a natural part of the learning and institutional environment.
Silveria Training Restaurant aims to offer its customers a dining experience where sustainable development is a natural part of daily work. We are committed to preventing and reducing the environmental impacts of our operations and actively work to promote sustainable development through continuous improvement and annual goal setting. Our work environment is safe for both staff and students, ensured by regular risk assessments as well as plans and instructions for crisis situations.
Sustainable Development
We inform our customers about our environmental work through, among other channels, our social media. The restaurant offers an environmentally friendly lunch option every day. Staff and students are educated on sustainability themes through themed weeks, and sustainability studies are part of the curriculum. As a training restaurant affiliated with a vocational education provider, Silveria operates according to Vamia’s equality and non-discrimination plan, as well as relevant laws and regulations. We promote social sustainability in our region for the benefit of both staff and customers.
The City of Vaasa has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2035. Based on this, Vamia and thus Silveria strive for the same goal. Water consumption is monitored, and flow restrictors have been installed on taps. Environmentally labeled cleaning agents are used according to dosing instructions, and the paper products in use are environmentally certified. Disposable tableware is only used for take-away and exceptional situations, and they are biodegradable. We strive to reduce waste and improve sorting and recycling. Energy consumption is closely monitored and unnecessary electricity and gas use is avoided. Used furniture is attempted to be reused either at Silveria or within Vamia. We use 100% renewable electricity. We regularly measure and monitor our environmental performance, including water, electricity, and energy consumption, as well as the amount of waste generated by our operations.
We prefer environmentally friendly products as well as organic and locally produced suppliers whenever possible within the framework of our procurement agreements. We are committed to not using meat, fish, or shellfish products that originate from endangered or protected species or stocks. We measure food waste and strive to find ways to reduce it. We also use the ResQ Club app.
Compliance with laws, regulations, and other requirements is our minimum standard, and we commit to exceeding current laws and regulations related to sustainable development. Silveria Training Restaurant aims to be at the forefront of creating sustainable tourism and inspiring other operators, customers, and staff to participate in sustainability efforts.
